jarred back

Hi

I work in a busy office where there are lots of wires from various equipment lying around. Last week (Thurs) I tripped over a wire from our printer. The wire is usually secured to the base of the wall - but had now fallen away and onto the floor.

As I fell, I twisted my body and pulled my back. Everyone was very concerned (apart from my Manager) and I filled out our accident report sheet. The problem is - I'm still off work and more importantly still in pain dispite pain killers from my GP. I'm seriously considering putting in a claim...mainly due to the reaction of my Manager - I'm more angry than anything!!

In the end - glad I did it. A welcome bonus to my new year. View Post

Bad body posture makes you a sitting duck
Date : 18 Feb 2011

If your job requires long hours of sitting then getting up from your desk and walking around a little every 20 minutes or so could help your body more than a 45-minute session at the gym, say experts.

"From a cardiovascular disease and metabolic syndrome perspective, your results will be significantly better,'' the Sydney Morning Herald quoted personal trainer, Jamie Atlas, from Denver, as saying.

All about back pain

Back pain is one of the most common ailments, afflicting an estimated 8 out of 10 people at some point in their lives.

The most common cause of back pain, accounting for over 50 per cent of cases, comes from muscular skeletal problems, said pain specialist Dr Bernard Lee from Singapore Pain Care Center. These problems include muscle injuries, spasms and back sprains. Such cases usually do not require invasive treatments and can improve with proper rest and rehabilitation.

Plasterer left in coma for two months after refurb fall
Date : 10 Feb 2011

A plasterer was left in a coma for two months after falling off a ladder during a refurbishment job when a light fitting hit him.

MacDonald Joinery & Construction Ltd was prosecuted by the Health and Safety Executive following the incident at the former Rosebys store, at Teesside Retail Park, Stockton on 2 September 2008.

Teesside Magistrates’ Court heard that Carl Major, 31, of Retford, Nottinghamshire, had been stripping out fixtures and fittings when he was hit on the head by a falling lighting pelmet.

He was knocked off the step ladder he was using and fell around three metres onto a concrete floor.

Major suffered serious head injuries and was in a coma for two months. He later developed epilepsy and still requires medical treatment. He has been unable to return to work.
